It opens with an introduction to who Snowden is, "Army recruit at 20. Joined CIA at 22. NSA contractor at 26. By age 29, the most wanted man in the world," AceShowbiz reports. The tagline follows later, "One nation, under surveillance, for liberty and justice for all." It is shown against the somber music and the backdrop of a Star-Spangled Banner which is displayed upside down. There is no actual footage from the movie. "Snowden" follows a whistleblower who reveals that National Security Agency uses new technology to spy on the entire planet. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the titular role. Shailene Woodley, Nicholas Cage, Melissa Leo, and Zachary Quinto are among the cast.
