Ambassador: Armenian-Iranian business forum to be held in TehranJuly 13, 2015 - 16:13 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian-Iranian joint business forum is scheduled to be held in Tehran, Armenian ambassador to Iran said. “Due to some reasons, Armenian-Iranian economic ties are not compatible with political relations. Bilateral trade volume amounted to $400 million in the recent years. Although Armenia’s border is open to Iranian goods, and the republic is a member of World Trade Organization with a low tax rate (0-10%), Armenian products do not have an easy access to Iranian market due to high customs tariffs in Iran,” envoy Artashes Tumanyan told newspaper Donya-e-Eqtesad, according to Panorama.am. “As an ambassador, I will meet with Iranian officials to promote privileged economic agreements signed with Armenia, for the latter to be able to export goods to Iran like Turkey does,” Tumanyan said. The ambassador said that at the business forum Armenian officials and specialists will present Armenian legislation and terms of launching economic activities to their Iranian counterparts. Tumanyan added that Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) membership enables Iran to export goods to the EEU market. “Armenia is attractive for foreign investment. Armenia and Iran signed an agreement on mutual investment support 10 years ago, but neither of the countries is represented through large companies. There are professionals and businessmen in Armenia, who could help Iranian investments,” the envoy said. Related links: Top stories Six total incidents have burned 19 old-growth trees.
