Armenian President meets with OSCE Chairman’s representativeSeptember 5, 2015 - 15:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met with the personal representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk on Saturday, September 5. Issues concerning the recent situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and at contact line between Nagorno Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan were on the agenda, the President’s website reports. Both sides expressed concerns over the recent ceasefire violations at the contact line. Sargsyan hailed the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs’ reaching a consensus on a mechanism for investigating the border and frontline incidents, stressing that the mechanism will help avoid further losses. The parties also exchanged ideas on Shant-2015 military exercise and its objectives. The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
