Emily Blunt eyed for Disney’s "Mary Poppins" movieSeptember 18, 2015 - 11:55 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Following Disney's announcement that it's developing a new "Mary Poppins" movie, several reports about the film's possible lead actress have surfaced. According to Den of Geek, the studio is eyeing Emily Blunt for the title role in the movie, AceShowbiz reports. The site reports that Blunt is at the top of the short list to take over the role originated by Julie Andrews in the 1964 original film. It is unclear whether an offer has been made or Blunt has already talked to the studio about taking the role. The 32-year-old actress seems to be a likely candidate to play the titular character. She is a British actress, so she doesn't have to fake her accent to play the British nanny. If Blunt really takes the role, the movie will reunite him with director Rob Marshall who directed her in "Into the Woods". Although there isn't any further detail about the movie, it is reportedly set about 20 years after the original and is based on the later books in the P. L. Travers series, specifically the ones that continue the nanny's adventures into the Great Depression. David Magee, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will write the script. There is no official release date just yet, but the movie is expected to arrive in U.S. theaters in 2017.
