PanARMENIAN.Net - Alan Cumming is to topline a mid 1980s-set dark comedy for Showtime. The Tony Awards-winning actor will play colorful New York City restaurateur Florent Morellet in the series aptly titled "Florent", AceShowbiz reports.

Morellet opened a restaurant in the Meatpacking District in the '80s when AIDS was an emerging issue. He rose to prominence with the eatery that drew a broad range of clientele, from cops to foodies to literati. The place became a hub for gay rights and AIDS activists. Morellet himself opened up about his HIV-positive status by posting his T-cell counts on a board alongside the restaurant's daily specials.

"Mad Men" scribe Patricia Resnick is writing the script while "The Good Wife" helmer Rosemary Rodriguez is directing. Together they will executive produce the half-hour series which gets a personal guide and advise from Morellet himself.

This role would be in second position to Cumming's gig as political strategist Eli Gold on CBS' "The Good Wife". The project was actually in development last year on SundanceTV.
