Despite the losses, Azerbaijan continued the shelling: 110 ceasefire violations were registered on September 28-29, with over 1600 shots fired from various caliber weapons, including 60-, 82-, and 120-mm mortars, AGS-17 grenade launchers, as well as Turkish-made TR-107 rocket launchers. Azerbaijani Defense Ministry confirmed the losses only after the information leaked into social networks. Azerbaijani official agencies often do not report casualties, with posts by opposition journalists or the victims’ relatives revealing the truth. The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army.
