OSCE Secretary General hopes for Armenian, Azeri Presidents' meetingOctober 12, 2015 - 12:14 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs may meet this fall and organize a possible meeting between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, OSCE Secretary General said, according to RIA news agency. Speaking at the CSTO Permanent Council in Moscow, Lamberto Zannier said he has discussed the Nagorno Karabakh conflict with CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha. “We are concerned about the escalation in the conflict zone and on Armenian-Azerbaijani border: we need to cooperate with the political leadership,” Zannier stressed. “We met with the Foreign Ministers of the countries and the Minsk Group Co-chairs on the sidelines of UN General Assembly. Another meeting may be organized in fall, with a presidential meeting to hopefully follow,” he added. The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army.
