FM, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State talk Karabakh in ParisNovember 7, 2015 - 11:07 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian held a meeting on Thursday, November 6, with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Paris. At the meeting, the parties stressed the importance of visa facilitation that came into force from January 2015 and the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, signed this May. Nalbandian and Blinken discussed the prospects of enhancing economic cooperation, the upcoming meetings of the U.S.-Armenia Task Force and the first meeting of the U.S.-Armenia Trade and Investment Council. Cooperation in the framework of the International Organizations was also discussed. The Deputy Secretary hailed Armenian President’s participation in the Peacekeeping summit, which took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in September. The parties addressed the the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, also exchanging views on several regional and international issues. The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army.
