Conan’s Armenian experiences featured in Nov 17 show (video)November 18, 2015 - 11:49 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. comedian Conan O’Brien’s trip to Armenia aired Tuesday, Nov. 17 on his TBS late-night show. In the show, Conan frightened locals with his botched stab at their native tongue. He also landed a cameo on an Armenian soap opera, attended the Festival of Bad Ideas, ate something billed as Armenian Viagra, and paid a call on some sheepherders who, he was disappointed to learn, were dressed like bouncers. He also visited a memorial to the Armenian Genocide victims with his assistant, Sona Movsesian, who is of Armenian descent and has never visited the country. Earlier, Conan explained to Asbarez that the genesis of the show dates back six years when he moved to Los Angeles and hired Sona Movsesian as his assistance. She said she grew up in Montebello, where she attended the Armenian Mesrobian School, learning the language, culture and history of Armenians. She had never traveled to Armenia and said that she was able to experience what she had grown up hearing about from her family, school and community. “It was amazing,” said Movsesian. “I felt a strong sense of appreciation and the people remind me of my uncles and aunts.” O’Brien discussed his experience in Armenia and producing the episode saying: “I’ve been making television for 22 year and this episode is one thing I am most proud of.” The host said he wanted Armenians and non-Armenians to watch the episode to experience the “humor sweetness and solemn moments” that he had in Armenia.
