Russia reinforces air base in Armenia with attack, transport helicopters![]() December 8, 2015 - 14:59 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia has deployed seven attack and transport helicopters MI-24 and Mi-8 to reinforce its military base in Armenia, RIA news agency quoted Russian Defense Ministry as saying on Tuesday, December 8. “Another batch of helicopters will be deployed by year-end. The air assets will be assembled within a month, with pilots set to start scheduled flights afterwards,” the Ministry's statement said. According to the Ministry, Russian airbase, located in Yerevan, was formed in 1995. In November 1998, multipurpose MiG-29 were redeployed at the base, making it home to a squadron of MiG-29s and Mi-24 attack helicopters. ![]() ![]() The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington.
