  Azeri ceasefire violations continue on the night of Dec 24-25 December 26, 2015 - 11:11 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Karabakh Defense Army troops say Azerbaijani armed forces have fired 500 shots from various caliber artillery weapons on the night of December 24-25. Karabakh troops control the situation on the contact line, protecting military positions. Azeri troops broke the relative calm on the contact line between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan. On December 25, at around 1:00 pm, Karabakh army soldier Karen Akulyan, aged 18, was lethally wounded in the rival’s sniper attack. An investigation into the details of the incident is underway. Relative calm on the line of contact between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan was observed on the night of December 24-25.    The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
