Michael Fassbender-Alicia Vikander drama release date setFebruary 10, 2016 - 12:43 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander's The Light Between Oceans will open in theaters nationwide on Sept. 2, the beginning of the fall awards season, Disney and DreamWorks announced Tuesday, Feb. 9, The Hollywood Reporter revealed. Directed by Derek Cianfrance, the wrenching drama is based on the best-selling debut novel from M.L. Stedman and also stars Rachel Weisz. Set on a remote island off the coast of Western Australia in the years following World War I, the story follows a lighthouse keeper and his wife who are faced with a moral dilemma when a boat washes ashore with a dead man and a baby who is alive. When they decide to raise the child as their own, the consequences of their choice are devastating. Light Between Oceans will be released via Disney's Touchstone label, even though DreamWorks recently signed a new distribution deal with Universal. The plan was always to keep the keep the film with Disney, since it was shot in 2014. Participant Media, which is now DreamWorks' official partner via the newly constituted Amblin Partners, co-financed the film with Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks.
