Samsung Galaxy S7 runs a Snapdragon 820 chip after all

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Samsung Galaxy S7 was officially unveiled last night (February 21), and despite Sammy bragging about the phone's boosted power, it remained coy on exactly what was driving these improvements, Digital Spy said.

Now though, Qualcomm has confirmed that its latest Snapdragon 820 chipset will indeed power the flagship phone - at least in some markets.

"Depending on what region you're in, it might have a different SoC in," Qualcomm CEO, Steve Mollenkopf said, addressing Digital Spy.

He added: "We are one of the suppliers into that product, and very pleased to have that opportunity."

Why is this a big deal? Well, aside from the 820 chipset offering a mass of power and a features set that will see your phone better manage its battery and offer improved camera skills, it marks a step away from own-brand internals on Samsung's part, Digital Spy said.

Last year, with the Samsung Galaxy S6, the Korean manufacturer turned its back on a longterm Qualcomm partnership, to back its own Exynos efforts.

Chipset aside, the S7 features a mass of high-end internals, with a 12-megapixel low-light specialising camera landing alongside a 5.1-inch QHD display and a new, waterproof body.
