An alternative version of the track, titled “Marigold”, also features the addition of Kera Schaley playing the cello. As NME reports citing Consequence of Sound Grohl originally penned ‘Marigold’ as part of his 1992 solo project ‘Pocketwatch’. The tune was later re-recorded for Nirvana’s third and final studio LP ‘In Utero’, which was released in 1993. Grohl sings lead vocals on the song in addition to playing guitar and bass, alongside Krist Novoselic, with Grohl adding that the late Kurt Cobain appears on the low harmony. ‘Marigold’ was originally released as the B-side to ‘Heart-Shaped Box’, with the song later featuring on the box set ‘With the Lights Out’ in 2004. Meanwhile, Grohl was also on hand to pay tribute to an array of late stars at The Oscars ceremony last night (February 28), performing a cover of The Beatles' 'Blackbird' for the annual 'In Memoriam' segment.
