Three Karabakh soldiers wounded in Azerbaijan’s ceasefire violation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Three Karabakh soldiers were wounded in Azerbaijan’s violation of the verbal agreement on ceasefire overnight on April 27. The condition of one of them is assessed as critical, Head of Medical Department of Armenia’s Defense Ministry Kamavor Khachatryan said, according to Artsakhpress.

Khachatryan said the soldier’s pelvis has been broken.

“A major surgery will be required, but his live is out of danger,” he said.

The condition of the other two servicemen is assessed as satisfactory: one of them got a concussion, while the other received a pulmonary shrapnel injury,” Khachatryan said.

Azerbaijan’s artillery shelling of Nagorno Karabakh positions that began on April 26, continued overnight on April 27.

The Azerbaijani side fired 550 shells towards the Karabakh positions and civilian settlements using almost every type of artillery assets it possesses, including mortars, cannons, as well as MM-21 (Grad) multiple rocket launchers.

In the course of the rival’s aggressive actions, a Karabakh soldier, Hayk Minasyan (b. 1996) was lethally wounded.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
