Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk” starts filming in FranceMay 24, 2016 - 16:45 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Christopher Nolan has started shooting World War II action-thriller “Dunkirk” for Warner Bros. in Dunkirk, France — site of the massive 1940 military evacuation, Variety reports. “Dunkirk” will focus on the rescue through a quickly assembled British fleet of more than 800 boats, which saved more than 335,000 soldiers who had been cut off by the German Army. As the rescue was concluding, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill told Parliament, “We shall fight on beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender.” Nolan is shooting “Dunkirk” from his own screenplay on a combination of Imax 65mm and 65mm large format film. “Dunkirk” hits theaters on July 21, 2017. The cast includes Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy and Fionn Whitehead. The ensemble cast also includes Aneurin Barnard, Harry Styles, James D’Arcy, Jack Lowden and Barry Keoghan. The film is being produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas, who have teamed on “Interstellar,” “Inception” and the Dark Knight trilogy with Jake Myers serving as executive producer. Hoyte van Hoytema (“Interstellar,” “Spectre”) is the cinematographer. “Dunkirk” will shoot in France, Holland, the U.K. and Los Angeles.
