Turkey’s HDP to file complaint with ECRH over MPs’ immunity removal

PanARMENIAN.Net - The pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) of Turkey will submit a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) about a new controversial law on the removal of MPs’ immunity, deputy from Adana Meral Danis told RIA on Friday, June 10.

Turkey's parliament on May 20 adopted a highly controversial bill that would lift immunity for dozens of pro-Kurdish and other MPs and could see them evicted from parliament, sparking fresh domestic and international concern. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ratified the law on June 8.

“We don’t consider the removal of immunity as legal and fair; this is a completely political process initiated by the President,” Danis said.

“We're not going to go to the prosecutor’s office and testify, because we don’t expect a fair investigation. By the end of this month, we are preparing to file a complaint on the matter to the ECHR.”

“There is no reason to send us to prison. We are ordinary MPs who work in the parliament and who have committed no crimes,” she added.
