Iran to file complaint over U.S. court ruling on $2 bn frozen assets

PanARMENIAN.Net - Iran will file a complaint with the Hague court after a top U.S. court ruled to hand over billions worth of its funds to families of the 1983 Beirut blast victims, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Sunday, June 12, according to Sputnik News.

The U.S. Supreme Court decided in April that $2 billion in Iranian central bank’s U.S.-held frozen assets ought to be turned over to relatives of U.S. Marines whose barracks in Beirut were bombed by alleged Iranian radicals, as well as to victims of other crimes purportedly linked to Tehran.

"The Iranian government will file a lawsuit against the U.S. at the International Court of Justice within the next few days," Zarif was quoted by the semi-official agency Fars as saying in parliament.

The Iranian foreign minister slammed the United States for what he said were repeated violations of international laws over the past years and warned that Tehran would not recognize U.S. court decisions.
