Germany may refuse to extend Turks’ residence permits: official

PanARMENIAN.Net - Germany may refuse to extend residence permits of those Turks who have been involved in defamation and slander against German lawmakers of Turkish origin, following the Bundestag’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide, a German top official said.

According to state secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior Günter Krings, whoever was involved in defamatory propaganda against German MPs of Turkish origin, had not been integrated into German values and legal system, Daily Sabah reports.

The politician said this situation would "of course be taken into account in decisions regarding residence permits."

German politicians of Turkish descent have been placed under police protection after receiving death threats over parliament's decision to recognize the Genocide.

Security officers have been assigned to accompany 11 MPs since June 11. The measure came following a round of “security discussions” with federal police.

Greens chief Cem Ozdemir, who counted among those who initiated the resolution, had earlier already been given police protection.
