"Hidden Figures" 1st trailer features Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer

PanARMENIAN.Net - 20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for "Hidden Figures" for fans' viewing pleasure. The video, which debuted during Rio Olympics on NBC on Sunday night, August 14, features three brilliant African-American women working at NASA, including Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae), AceShowbiz reports.

The video shows the trio battling stereotypes and defying expectations even as they make history. Kirsten Dunst's Vivian Michael can be seen telling Johnson not to "embarrass" her after Vaughan recommends Johnson to be in NASA. Another scene shows Johnson speaking to a possible suitor about her doing heavy duty computer work, saying that "it's not because we wear a skirt, but because we wear glasses."

Based on a non-fiction book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly, the upcoming film centers on the untold story of three African-American women who provide NASA with important mathematical data needed to launch the program's first successful space missions, the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit in 1962.

The cast members also include Kevin Costner, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Jim Parsons, Aldis Hodge and Glen Powell. Directed by Theodore Melfi from a script she co-wrote with Allison Schroeder, "Hidden Figures" is scheduled to be released on January 13, 2017 in U.S. theaters.
