Instagram testing new feature to rival YouTube

PanARMENIAN.Net - Now, it appears as if Instagram is looking to once again up its own video game, offering some users a trial feature called "Channels" within its Explore section. The test appears to allow users to binge on a particular category of content, akin to how YouTube works with its related videos and sections, Digital Spy said citing Mashable.

The feature was first discovered on an Android device running 6.0.1 Marshmallow, though it couldn't be found on an iPhone or another Android phone.

While videos are already emphasised at the top of the Explore section, the Channels section brings together certain genres, such as 'Aquatic Adventures', 'Barbers' and, of course, 'Cats'.

Instagram is likely trialling this on a small group of users, saying in a comment to Mashable: "We're always testing new ways to improve the Instagram experience."

Testing a new feature doesn't necessarily mean it will see expansion, though a section for refining specific interests would appear to be a logical move from the photo-based app.
