Facebook celebrating 50 years of “Star Trek” with new Like buttonsSeptember 8, 2016 - 17:21 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Facebook is celebrating 50 years of “Star Trek” in a fun way: changing up their suite of Like buttons, The Verge said. According to Lindsey Shepard, Facebook Messenger’s marketing lead, the company began to explore ways to celebrate the science fiction franchise. She notes that users might be invited to change up their profile picture with a custom frame, but they decided to change up another feature: the Like buttons. The new buttons show off Spock’s signature Vulcan salute, Kirk (Haha), Spock (Wow), Geordi (Sad), and a Klingon (Angry). The buttons will be available for a limited time for "some Star Trek fans in the US and Canada." This isn’t the first time that the company has played with the buttons. For Mother’s Day, Facebook tested out a temporary reaction earlier this year, adding in a flower. Given how resistant the company was to changing the Like button for years, we can’t help but wonder if this could be the company’s answer to the Google Doodle.
