Sasna Tsrer members to be charged with murder of 3 police officers

PanARMENIAN.Net - Some members of the armed group that seized a police department in Yerevan in mid-July will be charged with the murder of three police officers, killed during the standoff, a candidate for Armenia’s Attorney General said Friday, September 9.

An armed group known as Sasna Tsrer (Daredevils of Sassoun) stormed a Yerevan police patrol department in mid-July and took everyone inside hostage. Throughout the following days, the group released the captives one by one. After negotiations that lasted for a little over two weeks, the gunmen agreed to surrender to the law enforcement bodies. Three police officers were killed during this period.

“I can’t divulge secret information, but as soon as sufficient evidence is gathered, charges will be brought against some of the gunmen,” Artur Davtyan said.

He failed to state, however, whether amnesty will be applied in this case.
