Armenia made her modest contribution to establishing stability and security in IraqMay 4, 2007 - 15:01 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Yesterday in Egyptian resort town Sharm el Sheikh an event took place dedicated to the beginning of actions that are supposed by the "International Compact with Iraq". Based on provisions of the document the strategy of Iraq's national development is being put for practical realization. The "International Compact with Iraq" indicates moves, which the Iraqi government with the assistance and participation of the international community must undertake in order to establish security and social-economic progress in the country. Representatives of 70 countries participated in the event. Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian headed the Armenian delegation at the conference. The RA FM said, participation in assisting the Iraqi government and people is very honorable. "Armenian made her modest contribution to establishing stability and security in Iraq. The existence of a small Armenian community in Iraq had its influence, since Armenians have always enjoyed hospitality of the Iraqi people and the whole Arab world and in connection with this we have certain obligations," Vartan Oskanian underlined. The RA FM also noted the meeting is being held in a crucial moment for Iraq, when a greater role plays the international community in country's life and its stability issues. Vartan Oskanian said "International Compact with Iraq" is a national document and its successful realization is determined by three circumstances. "The first is ethnic and inter-religious dialog, without which it is impossible to reach stability in the country. The second important circumstance is inclusion of neighbor countries, which have certain influence on the situation in Iraq. I hope they will contribute their mite to this process. And third is strengthening of the Iraqi government, which according to the document aims at changing the country and moving forward. The international community ought to help Iraq in hard times for that country," Vartan Oskanian underscored, the RA MFA Press Office reports.
