“Wolf of Wall Street” scribe to write “Scarface” reimaginingSeptember 29, 2016 - 12:11 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - After helping create iconic gangsters on shows like “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire,” Terence Winter is now ready to tackle another famous crime figure, Variety reports. Sources tell Variety, Winter has signed on to do a polish of Jonathan Herman’s latest draft of Universal’s new retelling of the “Scarface” story. Given Winter’s expertise creating such characters, and the fact that Winter has real-life relationships with former crime figures, the studio was quick to turn to the writer for “Scarface,” sources said. Antoine Fuqua is on board to direct. The film will be a Bluegrass Films and Global Produce production, and will be produced by Marc Shmuger, Scott Stuber, and Dylan Clark. Marty Bregman, producer of the 1983 “Scarface” film, will also produce. The pic is a reimagining of the core immigrant story told in both the 1932 and 1983 films. The new film will be set in Los Angeles and will focus on a Mexican immigrant. Exec VP of production Jon Mone and VP of production Jay Polidoro will oversee the project for Universal. Winter has balanced success in both television and film, having most recently helped created HBO series “Vinyl” following an Oscar nomination for his adaptation of “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Winter is currently producing an untitled LeBron James biopic and has also written an untitled Mike Tyson biopic starring Jamie Foxx. He also recently signed on to write the Andy Warhol biopic starring Jared Leto and produced Michael De Luca.
