Samsung discontinues Galaxy Note 7 productionOctober 12, 2016 - 11:56 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - After an embattled and explosive launch, a recall, a second launch and another subsequent recall, Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 has officially been sent to the smartphone graveyard, Digital Spy reports. The company has announced that it will permanently discontinue production, ending speculation of a third launch and a product that has charred the globe and the Samsung brand. Sammy said in a filing with South Korean regulators that it would permanently cease sales of the device, just a day after announcing a temporary halt amid 'safe' device failures. "Taking our customer's safety as our highest priority, we have decided to halt sales and production of the Galaxy Note 7," the company said. When the initial explosions were reported, the news had a relatively limited effect on Samsung's share price. When the company announced that it was pausing production and didn't know the cause of the issue, though, it lost an estimated $17bn to $19bn in value. Where Samsung goes from here is unknown. A quick re-brand of the Note 7 could be attempted, but its reputation and trust has likely already been lost in its own flames, Digital Spy said. Some have speculated that the company could bring forward the release of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge, though rebuilding its long-term reliability would appear more important than a quick-fix at this time.
