Armenia not going to send peacekeepers to Afghanistan

PanARMENIAN.Net - A regular 34-member shift of Armenian peacekeepers will depart for Kosovo May 24. "Our peacekeepers in Kosovo and Iraq are highly praised for efforts to maintain peace and stability there," RA Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan said at the solemn farewell ceremony. "This battalion is an example for a future peacekeeping brigade," he added.



The Defense Minister said Armenia is not going to send peacekeepers to Afghanistan.



During the ceremony 4 servicemen were decorated with the order of Andranik Ozanyan and 5 with the order of Vazgen Sargsyan. 43 peacekeepers received diplomas.



The shift of the Armenian peacekeepers left for Kosovo November 14, 2006. The rotation takes place every six months.
