NATO training center falls under attack in Georgia; gunman killed

PanARMENIAN.Net - A gunman has been killed outside a NATO military training center near the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, RFE/RL reports.

In a statement on October 23, the Georgian Defense Ministry said assailants, at least one of whom was armed, attempted to break into the NATO-Georgian Joint Training and Evaluation Center outside Tbilisi.

The assailants attacked a security guard outside the center, located at the Krtsanisi military facility.

A soldier who rushed to the scene shot and killed one of the assailants. The whereabouts of the other assailants was unclear.

Georgia’s military police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Investigators said the motive of the assailants was unclear.

The Joint Training and Evaluation Center was inaugurated in August 2015. NATO says the center provides advanced training opportunities for troops from Georgia and NATO, as well as other forces in the region.
