President declines to comment on possible appointment as Armenia PM

PanARMENIAN.Net - President Serzh Sargsyan has refused to comment on whether he is going to become Armenia's Prime Minister once his current tenure is over.

Al Jazeera on Thursday, October 27 posted a video story about the capture of a police headquarters in Yerevan.

An armed group known as Sasna Tsrer (Daredevils of Sassoun) stormed a Yerevan police patrol department in mid-July and took everyone inside hostage. Throughout the following days, the group released the captives one by one. After negotiations that lasted for a little over two weeks, the gunmen agreed to surrender to the law enforcement bodies. Three police officers were killed during this period.

In the footage, the Doha-based broadcaster spoke about the incident with President Sargsyan, also dwelling upon his political plans for the future.

"Although Sargsyan's final term as president will shortly end, a controversial new constitution changing Armenia from a presidential to a parliamentary democracy could in theory enable him to prolong his grip on the country by becoming its first prime minister," Al Jazeera said.

When asked, he refused to confirm whether he intended to run for PM, saying: "You know, I find it too early for these conversations."
