Over 570 shots fired in Azeri ceasefire violations overnight![]() November 12, 2016 - 11:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Tensions at contact line continued into the night of November 11-12 with over 85 ceasefire violations by the Azerbaijani army registered, the Nagorno Karabakh defense army press service reports. Azeri troops, in particular, used various caliber firearms, sniper rifles and machineguns to fire around 570 shots towards the Armenian positions. Also, 60- and 82-mm mortars were used in the north-eastern and northern directions of the contact line. No losses were reported on the Armenian side. The Karabakh frontline units continue controlling the situation on the contact line and protecting their positions. At present, the situation on the frontline is relatively calm, the reports said. ![]() ![]() The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army.
