UEFA may cancel football matches between Armenian and Azeri national teams

PanARMENIAN.Net - In Heerenveen, Holland the UEFA Executive Committee will make a decision on holding football matches between Armenian and Azeri national teams in the framework of EURO 2008 qualifying matches, UEFA Spokesman William Gaillard said. He informed the session of the UEFA Executive Committee will be held in few days, "This issue is included in the agenda of the session. Members of the Executive Committee will exchange views on the place of holding matches between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It is quite possible that the final decision will be made during this session."



The Spokesman stated that UEFA may cancel matches between Armenian and Azeri national teams, since regulations of the organization do not forbid canceling matches. "But, first of all, the parties are to give consent with the issue. Executive Committee may pass any decision in the meeting," William Gaillard stated.



UEFA Executive Committee meeting is expected to be held during U-21 European Championship final stage in Netherlands. The championship will finish on June 23. UEFA expects final decision to be passed on the same date. It is expected that UEFA will officially make a decision on the place of holding matches between Azerbaijan and Armenia till that time, APA reports.
