Sony picks up buzzy comic book miniseries “A.D.: After Death”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Sony has picked up the film rights to A.D.: After Death, a buzzy comic book miniseries from two of the industry's leading creators, Scott Snyder and Jeff Lemire, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

Josh Bratman is attached to produce the adaptation. Snyder and Lemire will serve as executive producers.

The comic, whose first issue just hit stores in November, is set in a future where a genetic cure for death has changed society and centers on a man frustrated by his never-ending life.

The three-issue book has weighty issues on its mind — aging (or lack thereof) and mortality — and combines sections of sequential art with sections of prose as well as painted art.

Snyder is known for his five-plus years writing DC’s Batman, authoring a defining run on the character. Lemire is a writer and artist known for indie comics such as Essex County and the post-apocalyptic thriller Sweet Tooth, as well as runs on Marvel Comics’ heroes such as Wolverine and Hawkeye.

The A.D. deal reunites Lemire with Sony, which in 2015 picked up his sci-fi comic Descender. Bratman, whose credits include Priest and 2011’s Fright Night remake, is also producing that adaptation as well.

Snyder and Lemire are repped by Cheng Caplan Company. Lemire is additionally repped by Stone, Genow, while Snyder is additionally repped by Laserson Law.

Eric Fineman will oversee the project for the studio.
