U.S. ready to further assist Armenia in combating corruption: envoyDecember 28, 2016 - 17:37 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The United States is ready to further assist the Armenian government in its fight against corruption, U.S. ambassador Richard M. Mills told Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan on Wednesday, December 28. At a meeting in Yerevan, the two discussed the Armenian-U.S. relations, the anti-corruption policies in the country and a number of questions concerning bilateral cooperation. Karapetyan briefed the ambassador on the activity of the Anti-Corruption Council, adding that the framework of civil society members is set to be expanded to contribute to the process of maintaining community feedback. Also, he said, the instructions he issues during Cabinet sessions - improvement of business environment, provision of services, granting of licenses to name a few - are aimed at reducing corruption risks. Mills said, in turn, that the U.S. is ready to continue assisting Armenia in the fight against corruption, extend the terms of the bilateral agreement on combating corruption, as well as outline the concrete measures that the American side is ready to fund. In addition, Mills said the United States is ready to provide expert assistance in the implementation of judicial and tax reforms.
