Danish parliament fails to "give historical assessment" to Genocide

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Danish parliament (Folketing) on Thursday, January 26 adopted a bill on the Armenian-Turkish relations, which states that "the best way for reconciliation is through open dialogue on the basis of a free and uncensored history research, including the release of all official documents from the period.”

"The Parliament regrets that Turkish law prohibits citizens and media to use the term ‘genocide’ about the events, and considers this an unreasonable restriction of both academic freedom and freedom of expression. Parliament maintains its parliamentary tradition not to issue judgments about historical events,” reads the bill.

Also, the Folketing said in the resolution that it recognizes the “tragic and bloody events that took place in the period 1915-1923,” failing to give a historic assessment to the Armenian Genocide.

Some three dozen countries have so far recognized the Armenian Genocide, including Germany, France, Russia, Argentina, Italy to name a few.
