Damien Chazelle wins 2017 DGA Award for “La La Land”

PanARMENIAN.Net - The winners for this year's Directors Guild of America Awards have been announced. Damien Chazelle was named Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film, thanks to his musical film "La La Land". He beat out Garth Davis ("Lion"), Barry Jenkins ("Moonlight"), Kenneth Lonergan ("Manchester by the Sea"), and Denis Villeneuve ("Arrival"), AceShowbiz reveals.

During his speech, he addressed President Donald Trump's muslim ban. The director praised Iranian director Asghar Farhadi whose film The Salesman is nominated for an Oscar, saying that Farhadi came from "a country my government tells me I shouldn't be in dialogue with."

Although losing the top honor to Chazelle, Davis still managed to take home a DGA trophy. He grabs Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film, pushing aside Kelly Fremon Craig ("The Edge of Seventeen"), Tim Miller ("Deadpool"), Nate Parker ("The Birth of a Nation"), and Dan Trachtenberg ("10 Cloverfield Lane").
