Azerbaijan escalates Karabakh conflict, launches Spike missile

PanARMENIAN.Net - The situation along the contact line between Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) and Azerbaijan was tense on February 28 and the night through March 1. Ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan were especially intense at night.

According to Artsakh defense ministry, the rival fired more than 1100 shots from various caliber firearms.

Besides firearms and D-44 divisional guns, Azeri troops also employed a TR-107 rocket launcher to fire 5 shells in the southeastern section (Martuni) of the contact line.

"In the same direction, the Azeris launched a Spike anti-tank guided missile which shows their intention to escalate the situation on the frontline," the Artsakh ministry said.

Spike is an Israeli-made fire-and-forget missile.

The Armenian side suffered no losses during the ceasefire violations.

To suppress the rival's attacks, Karabakh troops retaliated in case of necessity and continued protecting their positions.

The situation on the contact line is relatively calm at the moment.
