European People’s Party supports Armenia’s ruling RPA in electionsMarch 23, 2017 - 16:55 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Europe’s most powerful political entity has expressed its support to the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) in the parliamentary elections to be held on April 2. Nine parties and blocs running for seats at the National Assembly have already launched their election campaigns. President of the European People’s Party Joseph Daul in a video address to Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan said that the vote provides an important opportunity to test democracy, calling for free and transparent elections in line with international standards. “Free and fair elections are undoubtedly a precondition for strengthening EU-Armenia relations, also set to give a new impetus to the new framework agreement between the bloc and the country,” Daul said, adding that with great power comes great responsibility. According to him, Armenian voters will consider ruling RPA responsible if the party fails to justify the people’s expectations of having a democratic, stable and prosperous country. “This is a tough responsibility, but given your involvement and active work in the framework of EPP, I am sure you’ll succeed,” Daul added.
