Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron "battling for “Batgirl” role"April 18, 2017 - 13:49 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron are reportedly battling for leading role in "Batgirl". A source tells Radar Online that both actresses really want to portray the female superhero in the flick helmed by Joss Whedon, AceShowbiz reports. "It's an all-out war. All of them are perfect for it, and all have exceedingly good action credentials," says the source. An insider tells Radar Online that Theron "has put the word out to her agents to get her that role-no matter what the cost. She thinks 'Batgirl' would be a great follow-up to her villainess role in 'The Fate of the Furious'." Johansson, meanwhile, "is drooling over the chance to play 'Batgirl'. She may have issues with her Marvel deal [as Black Widow], but she's determined to override that little fact and attach herself to this project." According to the insider, Johansson has always "loved the character for her sharp and snappy ways." Batgirl, whose real name is Barbara Gordon, debuted in 1967's DC comics. She's the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. Despite being one of the most popular superheroes, Batgirl hasn't got any standalone movie. Whedon's upcoming "Batgirl" will center on the superheroine as well as feature other characters from Gotham City. Among the actresses who previously played Batgirl are Yvonne Craig, Alicia Silverstone and Danielle Judovits. They portrayed the female superhero in "Batman" movies in the past. As for the upcoming "Batgirl", neither Warner Bros. nor DC has given a word about who will play the superheroine.
