Russian, Syrian jets target IS positions around Deir ez-Zor city

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian and Syrian airpower worked overtime last night to suppress Islamic State movements and defenses throughout Deir ez-Zor city and the area around it, Al-Masdar News reports.

During the hours of darkness, the Russian Aerospace Forces (RuAF) and Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) conducted over 30 strikes, targeting IS positions and troop gathering points in the districts of Ayyash, al-Baghiliyah, al-Janenah and Huwyjat Saqr as well as in the Deir ez-Zor cemetery area, on the Thardah Mountain, along Ash-Shulah to Deir ez-Zor road and around the Deir ez-Zor military airbase.

In particular the airstrikes have helped to propel pro-government forces on ground.

Under cover of last night’s airstrikes, the Syrian Army and its paramilitary allies have been aided in their attempts to expand the buffer zone around the 137th Brigade Base and to push towards the northern Deir ez-Zor city district of Ayyash.
