SOONEST ELIMINATION OF SHORTCOMINGS IN ARMENIAN LEGISLATION TO PREVENT PACE SANCTIONS

PanARMENIAN.Net - The soonest elimination of shortcomings in the Armenian legislation will let prevent application of sanctions by the PACE. Head of "Ago" monitoring group, Italian ambassador to the Council of Europe (CE) Pietro Ercole Ago told journalists upon completion of his visit to Armenia. In his words, the PACE expected more from the election in Armenia and tried to put special pressure for the country to solve issues over the election. "If Armenia manages to eliminate problems in proper time, it will not entail any consequences," - the ambassador said. On the whole, Ago gave a positive evaluation of his visit to Armenia. He reported that in the course of a meeting with representatives of the authorities he got concrete assurance that all obstacles on the way of fulfillment of Armenia's commitments to the CE will be eliminated and the country parliament would discuss the packages of main documents in September. "We need to be sure that after our departure all corresponding decisions will be passed, as there are no objective impediments for their implementation, due to which Armenia will soon meet European standards completely," - P. Ago said.
