Trump: U.S. supports prosperous Armenia at peace with neighbors

PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. President Donald Trump has sent a congratulatory message to Nikol Pashinyan on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Pashinyan's office said.

"The United States supports a prosperous, democratic Armenia at peace with its neighbors," Trump said in the message.

Together, we can make progress on deepening trade between our countries, strengthening global security, and combating corruption. A peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will help these efforts.

Best wishes to you and the people of Armenia.”

President Armen Sarkissian on Monday, January 14 appointed Pashinyan in the post of the Armenian PM.

Pashinyan first came to power after leading a nationwide campaign to oust the former authorities.

Following months of peaceful protests, then PM and former President Serzh Sargsyan resigned, while the parliament elected Pashinyan as the country's new Prime Minister.

The National Assembly was then dissolved and new members of parliament were elected on December 9.
