Pashinyan won't compare situation in Venezuela with Armenian revolution

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is currently on a working visit in Russia, refused to compare the developments in Venezuela with the Armenian “velvet revolution” of April-May 2018.

The political crisis in Venezuela has taken a dramatic new turn with the decision by US President Donald Trump and several Latin American countries to recognize the opposition leader Juan Guaidó as the country's interim president.

“There can be no associations [between the two],” the premier told reporters.

"In Armenia, the revolution ended without clashes and victims, unfortunately there were victims in Venezuela. Secondly, the whole process fully complied with the procedures provided for by the legislation and the Constitution of Armenia," Pashinyan was quoted as saying.

According to him, it is necessary to understand "to what extent these events go in line with the constitution of Venezuela."

In the process, he said, the position of Venezuelan citizens should play a key role.

“At present, Armenia has not made any statement on the matter, we continue to follow the development of the situation,” the PM said.
