Armenia sends 30,000 vaccine doses to Georgia amid measles outbreak

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia will send 30,000 doses of measles vaccine to Georgia, Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan said in a Facebook post.

The move will help the neighboring country fight the measles outbreak more effectively and quickly, because, Torosyan said, "diseases know no boundaries."

According to him, he discussed the matter with his Georgian counterpart Davit Sergeenko, who said there are currently 1028 new cases of measles in Georgia due to the fact that many children were not vaccinated back in the 1990s.

The minister added that the last case of measles in Armenia was recorded in 2007 thanks to high rates of vaccination against the disease. The last time the disease was brought to Armenia in December 2018, when a passenger from the Russian Federation arrived in the country. However, the disease did not spread in Armenia.
