New page in Caucasus history opened after South Ossetian war

PanARMENIAN.Net - The armed conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia opened a new page in Caucasus history and resulted in appearance of two more independent states [Abkhazia and South Ossetia] recognized by Russia, director of the institute of CIS studies Konstantin Zatulin said when opening an international conference on Caucasus in Yerevan today.

"Simultaneously, changes are observed in the Armenian-Turkish relations. It's worth noting that Russia backed Turkey's Caucasus stability pact," he said.

The participants of the conference will also consider the impact of the August events on the Karabakh conflict settlement and the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation.
