Mayor: LA supports Armenia against Azerbaijan's violence

PanARMENIAN.Net - Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti has said that the city stands with the Armenian community against violence by Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan must end its provocative and dangerous threats to strike Armenia’s civilian nuclear power plant, and must admit international monitors," a tweet from the Mayor's account said.

"Dialogue and diplomacy are the only paths to peace and safety for the region."

The comment came in response to Azerbaijan's threats to strike the Metsamor nuclear power plant in Armenia, amid renewed unrest on the border between the two countries.

The situation escalated on July 12, with Azerbaijan launching three unsuccessful infiltration attempts in the next four days. The Azerbaijani military also used large caliber grenade launchers and combat drones to target civilian homes in several border settlements in Armenia. Four servicemen of the Armenian army were killed, while Azerbaijan reported 12 deaths.
