The Azerbaijani side used firearms to violate the ceasefire. Stepanyan revealed earlier that the special forces of the Azerbaijani military launched a failed attack on Armenia on July 21 evening. They were thwarted back to their positions, suffering losses and leaving others trapped in the process. The situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan escalated on July 12, with Azerbaijan having launched several unsuccessful infiltration attempts in since then. The Azerbaijani military also used artillery and combat drones to target civilian homes in several border settlements in Armenia. Four servicemen of the Armenian army were killed, while Azerbaijan reported 12 deaths. The situation had been relatively calm before the latest attack on July 21.
