Dana Mazalová, Czech journalist who covered Karabakh war, dies aged 66

PanARMENIAN.Net - Dana Mazalová, a Czech journalist and lawyer and a friend of the Armenian people, died aged 66 on Monday, September 7. She prominently covered the Nagorno Karabakh war, while her work shed light on the events of Khojaly.

"Deeply saddened about the passing of the celebrated Czech journalist and lawyer Dana Mazalová. She leaves behind a huge legacy of promoting truth and justice in impartial and professional coverage of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said in a tweet.

Mazalová is most famous for an interview she had with the ex-president of Azerbaijan, Ayaz Mutalibov, published in Nezavisimaya Gazeta in 1992, in which he accused the Azerbaijani side of the massacre in Khojaly.

Against the background of what Azerbaijan claimed about the "atrocities of Armenians" in Khojaly, Mazalova revealed the truth through an interview with the ex-president, who said: "The residents of Khojaly who escaped say that everything was organized so that there was a reason for my resignation. The Armenians left a corridor open for the people to escape. Why would the Armenians shoot?"
