Tumanyan's 140th birthday celebrations to be held in YerevanFebruary 12, 2009 - 17:21 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The 140th birthday of prominent Armenian writer Hovhannes Tumanyan will be celebrated on Mar. 23. Tumanyan's Museum in Yerevan is planning plenty of events dedicated to the great writer. "On Feb 18, the Museum workers will visit kids in the Blood Research Center, to congratulate them on writer's birthday and to gift them fairytale books. It was our initiative that Tumanyan's fairytales were published in accordance with Braille system so that special needs children could read them," Tumanyan's Museum Director Narine Tukhikyan told a news conference today. On Feb 19, Khnko-Aper Library in Yerevan will hold a miniature theater performance based on Tumanyan's fairytales. A ball will be organized in Tumanyan's museum. "Scientific conferences on Tumanyan's works will be conducted, and a Tumanyan Young Experts club will be opened in autumn. Some of festivities will be held in Tumanyan's native village Dsegh," she said. Hovhannes Tumanyan (1869-1923), is truly considered to be one of the greatest Armenian poets and writers. His work was mostly written in tragic form, often centering on the harsh lives of villagers. He was a prominent public figure, who rendered assistance to survivors of the Armenian Genocide in 1915.
