Situation in Karabakh conflict zone remained stable but tense overnight

PanARMENIAN.Net - The situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone remained stable but tense overnight, Armenian Defense Ministry spokeswoman Shushan Stepanyan said Friday, October 9 morning.

Firefights and artillery battles are continuing in certain parts of the frontline, Stepanyan said. Azerbaijan has also targeted civilian settlements with missile and artillery strikes, she added.

Stepanyan said the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army troops control the situation and are ready for any development.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey, launched a large-scale offensive against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27, shelling Armenian positions and civilian settlements with large caliber weapons and rocket systems. Armenia and Karabakh have introduced martial law and total mobilization. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. International and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
