Defense Minister: Turkey sends 60 troops to Azerbaijan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Ankara has sent 60 troops to Azerbaijan, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said in an interview with NTV channel on Tuesday, December 22.

Agreements on the establishment of a center for monitoring the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh are being implemented, Akar said, according to TASS.

"60 people from our personnel are currently in Azerbaijan. All agreements on the construction of the center between the three parties have been finalized, a number of issues related to the construction and accommodation of the personnel remain to be solved. Our people will be working with the Russians. We will talk with the Russian side about the duration of their stay there," Akar said, adding that the activity will be supervised by "Turkish and Russian generals".

He added that 30-60 Turkish troops will be involved in the monitoring of the ceasefire in Karabakh.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
